The newly-appointed Federal Commissioner in charge of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, stated this during her maiden parley with the senior management staff of the commission in Abuja, yesterday.

She said: “I am saddened by the forcible displacement of
people out of their ancestral homes in the North-East.

“We will intensify efforts to rehabilitate victims nationally and empower them, in conjunction with the local, state and the international community.”

Farouq, who was the pioneer Acting National Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said the commission would conduct a survey to ascertain the demography of the IDPs.

According to her, “now that the Armed Forces have regained lost ground and degraded the Boko Haram insurgency, permit me to appeal to the international community, patriotic Nigerians and you, my colleagues in this commission, to join in Operation Back Home for internally displaced persons.

“The operation also covers Benue, Ekiti, Enugu, Zamfara and other states where people were displaced by herdsmen, floods and sundry disasters.

“It is my view that IDPs are not only subjected to undue
hunger, homelessness but also dehumanised.”
